Pilotis Definition
Pilotis in architecture is a concrete post which is thin and is made of steel. This was used by the architects of 20th century to give backing to roofs and slabs of floor made of concrete. This is used to avoid the use of bearing walls. They act as pillars and columns that enable the building to stand upright above the ground or water surface. Elevated houses of Queensland and fisherman’s huts in Asia have such pole dwellings made of wood.
