Korean Art Definition
Korean arts include works in calligraphy, music, painting and pottery. In pottery, Korean art is identified by its use of natural forms, surface decoration and bold colors.
Stone Age works from 3000 BCE in considered the earliest Korean art work. Mainly, votive sculptures were unearthed, though recently petroglyphs were discovered. Arts styles of various Korean kingdoms and dynasties marked different periods in art. Sometimes, the Korean artists modified Chinese art works to incorporate their own elements such as simple elegance and purity.
In the era of Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392), art works flourished, especially in pottery.
