Retinal Art Definition
Retinal Art refers to art that creates a visual impact. Marcel Duchamp, a prominent Dadaist artist rejected the paintings of Impressionists as ‘retinal art.’ Duchamp opined that retinal art does not appeal to the intellect. He required art to be ‘intellectual.’ The term retinal art also refers to modern art pertaining to geometric designs that creates a sense of movement or optical illusions. It is also termed as Optical Art movement or Op-Art. The movement lost popularity by the end of 1960s.
