Neoclassical Definition
Neoclassicism is a word taken from Greek. Neoclassicism is a movement that emerged in Greece in the field of art, literature and music. It developed in 18th century and was later popularized in European states. This age was considered the age of enlightenment. This age is remarked by wide innovative and classical ideas in architecture and art. The sculptures made during that age significantly emphasized Rococo and Baroque style. It was architects like Robert Smirke and Robert Adam and the sculptors like Antonio Canova, Jean-Antoine Houdon and Bertel Thorvaldsen, and painters like J.A.D. Ingres, Jacques-Louis David and Anton Raphael Mengs who were great artists of that period and the artworks so produced by these artists were called Neoclassical Art.
