Neo Expressionism Definition
The term Neo-Expressionism refers to an art movement that emerged in late 1970s and early 1980s. It developed as a response against the theoretical art and minimal art of the 1970s. The characteristic features of Neo-Expressionism are the use of bright colors, figurative drawings, and textualism. The lead figures of Neo Expressionism were Julian Schnabel and David Salle in US, Sandro Chia and Francesco Clemente in Italy, and Anselm Kiefer and Georg Baselitz from Germany. Neo-Expressionists were also called Neue Wilden.
