Davenport Definition
The term Davenport is referred to a pottery and porcelain business which was situated in Longport, Staffordshire, England, from 1793 to 1887. Daven port pottery was found by John Davenport who was an English industrial potter. Daven port pottery were engaged in earthenware, porcelain, cream ware, ironstone, and other ceramics were also made. Initially, only earthenware pieces were made and Porcelain was started being manufactured in about 1815. Most of the Davenport antique pieces are marked with the word Davenport. The term Davenport is also used as a synonym for ‘sofa’ due to the popularity of the sofas made by A. H. Davenport and Company, a Massachusetts furniture manufacturer.
