Colonial American Art Definition
The term Colonial American Art refers to the 17th century art encouraged by the early settlers from Europe. The art was mostly Euro centric. Portraits had a prominent place in colonial American art. An American painter of the period, Benjamin West, had a shop in London and was the president of the Royal Academy. Decorative art also flourished during the period.
