Cloisonne Definition
Cloisonne refers to an ancient process of creating decorated enamel work. The resulting enamelware is also known as cloisonné. Cloisonne is made using a flattened wire laid on an edge as an outline. The vitreous enamel is added into the areas separated with the wire. The enamelware will have different colors bordered with thin strips of metal. This technique was resorted to during Byzantine Empire as early as 11th century.
