Ancien R Definition
Ancien R or Ancien Régime in French means the Old Regime or Former Regime. It refers to social and political system prevalent in the Kingdom of France about 15th century until the later 18th century under the late Valois and Bourbon dynasties. The term is occasionally used to refer to the similar feudal social and political order of the time elsewhere in Europe. Thus it refers to the absolute monarchy before the French Revolution in 1789.
