New York School Definition
New York School in the context of art refers to an informal group of artists active in New York City in 1950s and 1960s. The artists were inspired by surrealism. New York School artists were known as abstract expressionists also.  Apart from painters, the group had poets, dancers and composers. Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, Lee Krasner,Robert Motherwell and Clyfford Still were some of the renowned artists of New York School.
