Jomon Definition
Jomon refers to a period in Neolithic history of Japan. The name is derived from the pottery made during the period. The Jomon people were gatherers and hunters. Pottery was made by hands. The containers they made were strong enough to boil and store food. The earliest pottery were plain followed by ridge patterned and nail impressed pottery. Pottery of latter period had cord impressions.
