Gaudy Dutch Definition
In antique, Gaudy Dutch refers to white earthenware with Imari-style decorations. It was made by English artists for the American market during 1810 to 1820. The Imari-style decorations are inspired by Japanese Imari pottery. These decorations were made in red, green, blue, yellow and black. Only sixteen patterns of Gaudy Dutch were produced. Some of these items were marked with factory names, such as Riley (1802-1827), E. Woods and Sons, Burselm (before 1814), and Rogers (1815-1842).
