Encouragement literally means to make someone more confident and hopeful. In the context of art, encouragement refers to appreciating creativity. Art history reveals that most of the works of great artists like Michelangelo and Da Vinci would not have been possible if they did not get encouragement and commission from the religious or temporal heads of their times.
