Ellipse Definition
The word ellipse originated from Greek word elleipsis. Ellipse is a closed curve that is similar to a flattened circle. It is the flat part in a right circular cone which is not parallel to the centre line, base, or generatrix of the cone. An ellipse has a long axis and a short axis.  Artists often use ellipse in their drawings and paintings. The lid on a jar, the mouth of a vase, bowl, and plate are some examples where we can see ellipses in drawings.
