Dresden Lace Definition
The term ‘Dresden’ is seen used in relation to porcelain ware and figurines that were made in and around Dresden, Germany. Inspired by the Meissen porcelain, different decorating studios and factories based in Dresden began to make porcelain ware in Meissen style. Dresden is the common name that is used to refer to the porcelain ware and figurines that were made by these establishments/companies in Dresden. Dresden was a well known centre for intellectual, artistic, and cultural and movement. And sculptors, decorators, poets, painters, and other artists were attracted to this place. Historians say that it is the painting and decorating studios that made Dresden porcelain famous. We can see colorful and decorated Dresden tableware and figurines in antique stores.
