Derby Definition
Derby is a word which was embossed on the porcelain products that were designed in Derby, England. Though the original Derby factory was shut down in 1848, there were other firms that made quality porcelain products. The crown mark began appearing on Derby’s wares during the 1770s. Moreover, the crown mark was endorsed by the King George III and Queen Victoria, who granted the company the title “The Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Company.” Derby porcelain product lines include cups and saucers, figurines, inkwells, baskets and bough pots.
