Column Definition
The term column in the context of architecture refers to an upright support element which serves decorative purpose also. The shaft together with its base and capital forms a column. The capital of a column helps in identifying the order of classical architecture to which it belong. The five major orders identified by the features of the column are Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, Tuscan, and Composite.
