Caveat Emptor is a word that warns or notifies a buyer that the object he or she is going to purchase is subject to any defect “as-is.” In relation to antiques, the words are mainly used in auctions that involve prospective buyers. It is a Latin axiom meaning “Let the buyer beware.” These words remind the purchasers of the risks involved in purchasing antique goods that has no guarantee on reliability.
