Cabinet Of Wonders Definition
Cabinet of Wonders or ‘cabinet of curiosities’ originated from the German word ‘Wunderkammer’ which means chamber of wonders. These cabinets originated in the 15th century and were actually just walk in rooms where fascinating art, antiques, or any other rare objects from all over the globe were collected and exhibited for pleasure and private contemplation. Later on, these were transitioned into specialised cabinets. Monarchs and merchants used cabinets of wonders to exhibit rare objects that showed their status, knowledge, and power. Now we can see cabinets of wonders in museums.
