Tombac Definition
Tombac is a brass alloy with high copper and zinc content. It is inexpensive, malleable and its sheen does not discolor easily. As it is soft, it can be cut, punched, engraved, gilded, enameled or repoussed. In arts and crafts, tombac foils are used as an alternate to gold leaf. Tombac is mainly used for medals, ornament, decoration and some munitions. Historically, Javenese used Tombac to give fake gold finish to articles or ornaments.
