Tin Plate Definition
Tin Plate is end product when thin sheets of wrought iron or steel are coated with tin by a process called tinning. These products were resistant to corrosion. Earlier, Tin Plates were used to make cheap pots, pans and other holloware. It is believed that tinplate originated in Bohemia in the Middle Ages.
In the nineteenth and twentieth century tin plate toys were very popular as it was light weight and easier to ship. Toy vehicles and other collectibles made from tin plate were widely used at that time. Now, these tin plated toys and collectibles are sold as antiques.
