Romanitas Definition
Romanitas is a Latin term which means Roman-ness. When translated, romanitas refers to Romanism which means the roman way or manner. The term was first used by the North African writer Tertullian in the third century in his work “De Pallio”. The term refers to the main religion that prevailed during the Roman Empire before Christianity gained supremacy. The term also refers to the collection of cultural and political concepts and practices by which the Romans described them. Today, historians use the term Romanitas to refer to a Roman identity.
