Redware Definition
Redware refers to earthen ware made of clay. Redware were popular in the US by mid-18th century to early 19th century. The redware patterns included jugs, bowls, pitchers, plates and other kitchen and utilitarian wares. Flower pots, vases, toys, water pipes and roofing tiles were also made of redware. The redware was highly porous. Lead oxide was usually used to make it impermeable.
