Parergon Definition
Parergon means something that is subordinate to the main theme of an art work. It basically denotes something that is a byproduct of the main work. The term is also used to refer to an activity or work that is subsidiary to one’s basic or main employment. An ornamental decoration that is done on an art work is parergon. Again, in a portrait, the landscape or any other still life that is drawn is a parergon.
