Enlightenment refers to the philosophical movement emerged in Europe in the 17th century. The period employed rational and scientific approach to religious, social and cultural questions. The era is also called as ‘Age of Reason.’ The thinkers of the period regarded reason as a means to emancipate man from superstitions.
