Durant Kilns Definition
Durant Kilns was a pottery production that was founded by Jean Durant Rice in Bedford, New York in 1910. Both tableware and art ware were made under the name Durant Kilns. Rice used Leon Volkmar's help to produce these potteries. After the death of Rice in 1919, the company was taken over by Leon Volkmar. The name Durant Kilns was changed after 1930 and the Volkmar mark was used later on. White faience was one among the earliest Durant Kilns. Later Durant Kilns vases, trays, pots, and tableware were found in attractive colors such as turquoise-blue, green, yellow, and brown.
