Doulton Definition
Doulton, in the context of antiques, is used to refer to the Doulton pottery and porcelain ware produced at Doulton and Co. The company wad based at Burslem, England. The production began in the 19th century. For almost 200 years, Doulton wares were among the finest quality products in the world. The company produced beautiful ceramic pieces in the late 1800s and was noticed by the British Royal family including Queen Victoria. After 1902, the company used the name Royal Doulton for its products. Stoneware jugs, ornamental bottles, vases, and tableware are examples of some items that collectors search for. These pieces were often signed by the decorator.
