Cut Velvet Definition
Cut velvet, in the context of antiques, is a kind of art glass found in different colors. The glass was seen manufactured during the late Victorian period. Cut Velvet is made with two layers of blown glass that shows a raised pattern. These types of glasses have a velvety texture and an acid finish. We can see cut velvet vases, tumblers, creamers, and bowls. These pieces are commonly made in a diamond-quilted pattern. The term is also seen used to refer to a brocaded fabric where the looped pile has been cut and which has the pattern of velvet with the background of chiffon or voile.
