Crossing Definition
In ecclesiastical architecture, crossing means the intersecting point, or a junction where arms of a cruciform meets. In a cruciform church, the space formed by meeting of nave and coir which represents west and east and transept arm which refers to north and south is called the crossing. Building a dome or tower surrounding the crossing is common in English Gothic cathedrals. Such towers are usually lantern towers which allows light to pass through thereby making the crossing shine.
