Counterpoint Definition
The term counterpoint originated from the Latin term 'punctus contra punctum' which means point against point. Setting or playing a melody in conjunction with another is called counterpoint. It is a similar but contrasting element or theme in a design. If one or more counterpoints are incorporated in an artwork, it may bring more emphasis to such work. In music, it is the relationship independent voices and rhythms.
