Trivets Definition
A trivet is an object that protects the table from heat or water damage when hot dishes are placed on the table. It also refers to three-legged iron stand.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, trivets were used to hold hot irons and were mainly made in metal like iron or brass and could be identified by the casting marks.
