Terra Cotta Definition
Terracotta refers to a variety of reddish-brown colored earthenware that is baked. The clay is formed into the desired shape and fired and dried. The distinguishing feature of the earthenware is its porous quality. It may be glazed or unglazed ceramic. Its reddish-brown color of the clay is because of its iron-oxide content. Terracotta is usually used to make vessels, sculptures, bricks, roof shingles, tiles, etc.
