Soapstone Definition
Soapstone, in the context of antiques refers to carvings made from a soft rock, also known as steatite. Most of the soapstone carvings are of Chinese origin. Figurines and bowls are carved out of soapstone. Some antique soapstone carvings include bed warmers, baskets and ashtrays.
