Scriptorium Definition
The Latin term ‘scriptorium’ refers to a place for writing. Scriptoriums were believed to be in existence in the monasteries of medieval times. A scribe, who copied the text from another existing book, and an illuminator, who painted the book, worked together in the scriptorium. Scriptoriums were of much importance during the Middle Ages, the Europeans used scriptoriums at the primary site to produce and preserve manuscripts.
