Ramayana Definition
Ramayana is a Sanskrit epic which tells the story of Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, who was banished from the kingdom and his wife Sita. Sita was abducted by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka and was eventually rescued. Later, Rama was restored to the throne. Ramayana is deemed as one of the greatest works of Indian Literature, along with the Mahabharata. Ramayana is comprised of 24000 verses in seven books and 500 cantos.
