Poussinisme Definition
Poussinisme was a movement that arose in France during 17th century initiated by the Poussinists who were a group of French artists who admired the paintings of Nicolas Poussin. The Poussinists believed that drawing was most important in a painting than colour and Poussin style of painting gave more preference to linear style of painting and valued draftsmanship than the colouristic brilliance which was the speciality of Peter Paul Rubens’ paintings. Rubenistes and Poussinists groups were popular during the Baroque period of art who used to have hot debates in the French Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.
