Olla Definition
An olla is a ceramic jar, often unglazed, used for cooking stews or soups, for the storage of water or dry foods, or for other purposes. Ollas have a short wide neck and a wider belly, resembling beanpots or handis.
The word olla was derived from the Latin word 'aulla' or' aula' which means a simple pot and is a symbol of God Sucellus who ruled over agriculture. It was a kind of pottery which was used for cooking and storage purposes during Ancient Roman period. It was also used to carry ashes from the bodies after cremation. It is a jar made of ceramics without glazing and has a wide neck and gut. It resembles a beanpot.
