Mount Washington Definition
The term Mount Washington, in the context of antiques refers to the glassware produced by Mount Washington Glass Works in Boston. The glass wares were considered as typical examples of Victorian glass era in US. The early wares produced by the Company were utilitarian. Art glass began to be produced from 1870, when the Company was shifted to Bedford. Brilliant cut glass, white opal glasses, Mother -of –Pearl glasses, Amberina (later renamed Rose Amber) and Burmese were the famous glassware made by the Company. The Mount Washington glass wares include pitchers, biscuit jars, cake plates, creamers, candle sticks, jugs, ewers, shakers and lamp shades.
