Ligature Definition
Ligature refers to the joining of two or more letters to form a single glyph or character. The ampersand (&) is an example of ligature. It combines Latin letters e and t to form the single glyph. Ligatures are present in Cuneiform scripts of Sumerians and manuscripts in Medieval Latin.  The term ligature in the context of music refers to a group of notes to be played as single phrase.
