Lacuna Definition
Lacuna refers to a blank spot or gap in a painting. It occurs when paint flake off from the surface of the painting. Most lacunae are due to degradation. But it is not rare where they are intentional. The Impressionists have left the white surface used as grounds intentionally and lacunae are a regular feature in their paintings.
