Japanese Woodblock Prints Definition
The Japanese woodblock prints called ukiyo-e were used to print post cards and text books. Any impression made from original woodblock during artist’s life time is considered as original print. The first image was drawn on Japanese paper called washi and glued face down on the wooden piece. Based on the outlines wood was cut away. Toyonara and Story of Genji are two of antique Japanese woodblock prints.
