Gouda Definition
In antiques, Gouda refers to a place in Holland that has been a pottery center since the 17th century. It produced potteries marked Gouda. From 1898 to 1964, mainly two companies, Zuid Hollandsche pottery and Zenith pottery made brightly colored pottery called Gouda, though many other factories followed. Art Nouveau or Art Deco designs were depicted in these potteries. Gouda pottery is known for its matte glaze and the middle-class market was its main consumer.
