Filigree Definition
Filigree refers to delicate and intricate lacy jewelry works made from metals, usually gold or silver. Filigree works were in existence in ancient Roman and Greek civilizations. The thin, long strands of metal were twisted or plaited to make jewelry. The wires were soldered to the base during ancient Roman period. In the medieval era, the wires were left free standing.
