China Definition
In relation to antiques, the word ‘China’ relates to collecting ceramics. Earliest European porcelains were produced using china clay kaolin to increase its strength and hardness. Even today china clay is an important basic ingredient in the production of hard paste European porcelains. The word is also related to ‘Bone China’ developed in England. Bone China was produced to compete with other imported porcelain.
