Caryatid Definition
Caryatid is a Greek word. The term is used to refer to a female carved structure or figure that serves as a column. In the context of architecture, column means pillar or post that is used to carry weight. Caryatids are generally found in in long robes and they support architecture on their head. Greek architects were the first to use such caryatids. We can see caryatids in ancient Greek temples. Persian columns (Sometimes used animal structures in columns).
