Buttonhooks were a household item in Victorian era. Button hooks ranged from simple patterns to elegant designs. They were made from materials ranging from wood to gold. Sterling buttonhooks had handles in the shape of cherubs and animal heads. Gorham, Tiffany, Foster & Bailey, Whiting, Kirk, Shiebler, Lapierre, and Unger Brothers were prominent buttonhook manufacturers in America.
