Weaving Culture, Woven Art: Collectors and the Navajo Weaving Tradition

May 16 - November 23, 2016 - This exhibition highlights two recent donations of Navajo weavings: saddle blankets collected in the 1930s by Dr. Franklin Thresher McCann and rugs collected in the 2000’s by Dr. Robert Uphaus. The bold designs, color palettes and weave structures of hand woven saddle blankets and rugs help us to understand how Navajo culture and weaving practices have changed over time.
