Nazi Olympics: Berlin 1936

February 21 - August 28, 2016 - Nazi Olympics: Berlin 1936 coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Berlin Olympics and features the athletes, controversy, and pageantry surrounding the 1936 Games.

During the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Hitler exploited the Games to promote Nazi ideals of racial supremacy on a world stage. For the first time in the history of the Games, people in Europe and the United States called for a boycott because of the human rights violations taking place in Germany.

The exhibition, on loan from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, displays historical photographs, film, and the testimonies of athletes, spotlighting those who were barred because of their ethnic heritage, or who, like Jesse Owens, competed and won, challenging Hitler’s “master race” dogma.
