Georgian

Encyclopedia of Antiques

From 1714 to 1820, during the reigns of George I, George II, George III, and George IV, the early and late Georgian styles were developed. Heavy richly upholstered pieces dominated the early styles. Walnut and mahogany were used, and the designs included the lion head and the leaf.

“The Golden Age of English Furniture” was the reference often made to this era. Chippendale, Adam Brothers, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton were the lead names of that time with Chippendale reflected in the Late Georgian.
