Edens Auctions, Inc. Annual Memorial Day Auction is Largest

Edens Auctions, Inc., out of Jackson, Mississippi conducts a Memorial Day Antique Auction each year.  Their 7th to be held on May 26, 2014 will be the largest in terms of value.  Consisting of items from the Estates of Elaine Crystal, Jerry Crystal, John Hampton Stennis and others, there is everything from fine art and bronzes to period antiques.

According to Edens, the auction will be a live auction with online bidding available at Proxibid and Auction Zip Live Auctions.  Their catalog can be viewed at their website, EdensAuctions.com.  Examples from the auction include:
  •  Large red leather edition of Milton's famous "Paradise Lost." Illustrated by Gustave Dore. London publisher Cassell, Petter, Galpin. Notes and Life of Milton by Robert Vaughn, D.D. Binding is red leather with gold lettering; Inscribed W.C. Johnston Belfast 1871. Sits in antique walnut table with inset for the book. Book is 13" wide, 17" h.
  • Group of three antique canes. Vintage Chinese bamboo (signed) walking cane with snake design, 34" h. Antique hand carved vintage cane, 36 1/2" h. Simple antique walking cane, 34 1/2" h.
  • "Fortune Teller" oil on board, signed Andrew Geddes (British 1783-1844) portrait painter and etcher, who was born in Edinburgh. Fine Early nineteenth century painting which is signed and dated 1809 in the lower left corner. Attributed to Geddes by Sotheby's when purchased at auction in London; 20" w., 26" h.
  • Pair of watercolors of dogs by Renown American artist from Rochester, N.Y. Seth Corbett Jones (1853-1929). This pair shows his fine workmanship and detail; 15" w., 25" h.
  • Court Scene watercolor by Charles Ledere (American 1856-1925). This is a finely done watercolor by Illinois artist depicting couple appearing before men in armor, one of which is seated holding a sword; 17" w., 14" h.
  • Oil painting of a cabin in the snow on board. Painting by M.M. Kent (American) signed and dated lower right '97. ; 18 1/2" w., 14 1/2" h.
  • Rare and valuable painting entitled "Hadrian Sea" signed lower right by Austrian painter George August Fischhof (1859-1914); 27" w., 40" h.
  • Oil on canvas of old house in woods at winter time, signed lower right P. Girard (French 1839-1920); 30 1/2" w., 27" h.
  • Watercolor of landscape, by English artist John Horace Hooper (1837-1912) signed lower right; 30" w., 18" h.
  • Oil painting of Marie Amelie by English artist Edmond Thomas Parris (1793-1873) oil on board; 17" w., 14" h.
  • Oil on canvas of "Lady Resting" by Marcel Jombon (1848-1908) French, signed lower left. Reverse side of painting is oil painting of what appears to be French house showing windows; 28" w., 37" h.
  • Large bronze of Neptune. Image symbolic of domination. The sea god is "taming" the seahorse. Sculpture is standing  on octagon shaped base with ornate divided sections (one missing); 24" h., 12" dia.
  • Vintage distressed brass Railroad Spittoon. Union Pacific with two sided graphics, good patina.
  • Greek Myth bronze of Amphitrite. Sea Goddess Amphitrite Sculpture standing on octagon shaped base with elaborate panels. Matches the bronze of Neptune; 28" h., 12" dia.
  • Nineteenth century bronze marble candelabra lamps with bronze. Empire style, faux ivory finials; 36" h.
  • White marble urn decorated with gilt bronze dore in the empire style, with rams head handles; 19" h., 8 1/2" dia.
  • Nineteenth century large French bronze of Bartolommeo Colleoni. Soldier on horse sitting on red marble base, unsigned; 14" w., 7" dia., 22" h.
  • Barbedienne style French bronze urns on rouge marble base, cast in relief with classical friezes; 7" dia., 18 1/2" h.
  • Unusual pair of Chinese cloisonne wedding bowls in blue ground decorated with flowers and dragons; 10" dia., 5 1/2" h.
  • Pair of late nineteenth century, black cloisonne vases with yellow and white flowers; 20" h.
  • Nineteenth century Chinese champleve and bronze footed centerpiece, blue enamel ground, renaissance head handles. Supported by paw feet; 12 1/2" dia., 11 1/2" h.
